One year of the devastating earthquake marked

Kathmandu: On 24 April 2016, Habitat for Humanity Nepal together with Aakar Nepal and We Save Humanity Social Group Nepal, marked the first anniversary of the devastating earthquakes to remember not only the people who have lost their homes or loved ones but also to acknowledge those who have helped to gain resilience.

An hour-long event took off with a moment of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the quakes.

During the event, Habitat Nepal displayed photos to showcase volunteers’ contribution in post-earthquake recovery. The event also offered a moment of reflection for volunteers to share their post-earthquake experience and journey. More than 150 youth including Ms. Barsha Lekhi, Miss Nepal International 2016 attended the event and showed their solidarity and resilience.

The event concluded with the candle light vigil. The glow of candlelight gave a sense of hope for communities affected by earthquakes.

“This year has gone by incredibly fast. There are still numbers of families living in tent a year after the earthquake. If I ever get an opportunity to volunteer for those in need, I would not say no.” – Ezekiel Rai, a local volunteer.
